I'm raising money to help relieve the financial burden from families that have a child being treated for a cancer diagnosis.

I am cutting my hair to fundraise to help sick kids throughout Australia.  Not only will my lovely locks be used to make a wig, your donations to the cause that means so much to me, will allow Kids with Cancer Foundation to continue with their financial support of families that have a child suffering cancer.

To honour my Mum

Monday 1st Mar
It's no secret that Cancer effects basically everyone in some way, shape or form. Whether through a family member, a loved one, or someone you know by acquaintance. 

On the 1st of March 2020 my Mum was diagnosed with lung cancer and spots on her liver after a fall. There were no signs nor symptoms. This day changed my families lives forever. 

Horrifically over the coming weeks after the initial diagnosis of lung cancer and spots on the liver, Mum went on to find out that the cancer was also in her brain and her spine. She started chemo and the next week she got an infection in her leg that spread fast. At the height of covid lock down Mum was taken back to hospital via ambulance late that night and the next morning she had to have her leg amputated or was told she would die within 2 days. From here on Mum was bed ridden, a very different life to what she was used to being so active. 

To this day I cannot imagine how Mum coped with all that was thrown at her, due to covid she had barely any support, she was very much alone. Dad was allowed to visit her for half an hour a day, myself and my siblings could not see Mum at all. At a time when she needed us most, when we wanted and needed to be with her, we couldn't be until she moved into Palliative care at another hospital and then just two a day, still only one at a time for half an hour.

On the 13th of May 2020 just 73 days after the initial diagnosis my Mum lost her very short but brutal battle and she passed away, still only one of us by her side.

My Dad and our entire family are still grieving for the loss of our beloved Mum and although "you just have to get on with it" there isn't a day that goes by that she isn't on my mind and that my heart isn't broken. 

Mum's fight was fast, it was cruel and still doesn't feel real 9 months on. 

This Monday the 1st March will mark 1 year since Mum’s initial diagnosis.  I want to honour my Mum so I have decided to donate my hair (not shaving it) to kids with cancer to make a wig. I wanted to do this for the children, for the families affected by this cruel disease. I also want to do it for me, so I can give something to ease a child's journey in some way. Like I said my Mum's road was nothing less than cruel but when I think of a child having to deal with all that comes with a cancer diagnosis, my heart breaks even more and I simply just don't have the words.
