I'm raising money to help relieve the financial burden from families that have a child being treated for a cancer diagnosis.

I am cutting my hair to fundraise to help sick kids throughout Australia.  Not only will my lovely locks be used to make a wig, your donations to the cause that means so much to me, will allow Kids with Cancer Foundation to continue with their financial support of families that have a child suffering cancer.

Wigs 4 kids….I’m almost there

Since my husband’s passing 3 years ago, I have been on a mission to grow my hair and donate it for a wig.  Why a wig?  Hair is not that important…is it? It’s just hair….well I disagree.  After  spending  hours in chemo wards, chatting with folk, over a period of 4 years, the  theme remained the same.  A good quality wig is like armour for a person with cancer.  It can be worn on those days when a person just does not have the stamina to have that cancer conversation…:again.  It is a little reprieve from the well-meaning looks  from people and the relentless questions about how they feel about losing their hair. 

I have registered with Wigs4kids and will be losing my locks when I reach my fundraising goal of $2000. Why $2000? This is the cost to make a good quality Australian made wig for a child.  The Kids with Cancer Foundation work with social workers in hospitals  to determine if a wig would be beneficial for a child.  If so, the wig is made by Ella Wig Makers, a NSW based business. The wig is supplied free of charge. A little luxury that some families may not be able to afford, when dealing with the life saving expenses that are required during cancer treatment.  Long story short…I’d really appreciate a donation, so I can lose my locks and contribute to a great cause.  Many thanks.      Mel…xx
