Van & Sam are doing the big chop for cancer!

If you know Van and Sam, you know their hair.

For years, it's been part of who they are. It's probably one of the first things people notice about them, and it's safe to say that the thought of either of them cutting will surprise a lot of people!

What many people don't know is that this all started years ago when Van was in primary school. One day, he told us he wanted to grow his hair "for kids with cancer." It wasn't a passing idea—it was something he genuinely wanted to do. So, he started growing it.

As for Sam... his long hair has been part of his identity for most of his adult life. Cutting it was never really on the cards. But when your son wants to do something this special, you do it together.

So here they are, years later, taking on the Big Chop side by side.

They're not just donating their hair. They're raising funds to help create bespoke wigs for children, provide practical financial support for families facing childhood cancer, and fund vital care and services within paediatric oncology hospitals.

As their wife and mum, I couldn't be prouder. Watching this idea grow from something Van dreamed about as a little boy into something they're now doing together has been pretty special.

Hair grows back. For children facing cancer, things aren't always that simple.

Many people might not know that the team at Niche donate hair for wigs through their sustainable salon practices and have done for quite some time! We're proud to be supporting a local salon that is so passionate about giving back and helping people affected by cancer. It really does help that they are curl experts - with these boys!

Now comes the hard part... what hairstyle do Van and Sam choose next? Suggestions are welcome... although we're not making any promises they'll listen!
